Stellar Worship or astral theology is the occult or hidden source of all religious traditions past and present. It was the ancient ancestral practice of Ethiopia/The Utopia; the Mother of Egypt.
The oldest constellations preserved for the West from ancient sources show us a group of dogs in the southern sky. The group was know collectively in later myth as Cerberus*.
Canicula-aka Sirius , alpha star of Canis Major or the GREAT BLACK HOUND. Canicula is the Eye of the Big Dog. Sirius is associated with Anubis by speculative Freemasons. For the ancients, Sirius indicated the scorching heat of the summer sun in the southern hemisphere.
Canopus- the "Ka of Anubis," alpha star of Argo Navis. This is the golden ANUBIS, the guide of Auset, the transporter of Souls into the "afterlife." Canopus as Suheil or the "heavyweight" is the permanent or unchanging aspect of the southern pole. The South pole is a stablizing influence
Procyon- Means "before the Dog", i.e. Sirius the alpha star of Canis Major. Procyon is alpha star of Canis Minor, the smaller dog and one of the 48 constellations, but in ancient times before the Greek revisions to the Elysian fields, the stars in the night sky, Procyon was not known as a separate constellation. The "sign" rose before or warned of the appearance of Canicula/Sirius.
Cynosura- Tail of the dog, is a little used alias of our current Northern Pole Star Polaris, the alpha Star of Ursa Minor, aka the Little Bear or Little Dipper. Cynosura is not part of the southern "pack" or dark hellhounds but is mentioned for "contrast". Cynosura is pictured as the WHITE DOG seen behind the unnumbered card of Tarot, the Fool.
NOTE: The modern constellation named Cerberus does not show a dog but a three headed serpent. Remember the modern star groupings are revised and not in alignment with the spiritual concepts and myths held previous to the translation and transfer of the 48 star images passed to the Persians and then the Greeks and therefore cannot be given the same value in astral theology.
